One of the last vestiges of the British Empire, Hong Kong, was returned to Chinese rule ten years ago today. Funny, I found out that today is the anniversary when I went to look up something on Wikipedia just now, but I was thinking about Hong Kong earlier today. I wonder if I remembered the date subconsciously…? Nah, just a coincidence, I’m sure. At any rate, as you probably recall, I took a trip there last summer. It was a nice place. I’d really like to go again sometime.

I wrote a couple articles about my trip last August:
Hong Kong!
Hong Kong, Part II
And I also have a Flickr Photoset:

If you’re like me, you’ve probably heard it a million times, and it’s true: The chances are, at some point, your computer hard drive will fail and you will lose data. If you don’t want to lose important documents, pictures, or that report you’ve been writing for the past three days, you have to backup your computer’s contents regularly!

My high school is near Tamagawa Station, in the outskirts of Tokyo. To get there, there are two options: The Seibu Line (run by a private company that also owns a baseball team and a number of stores and other interests), and a monorail. I usually take the Seibu Line.
Today, as I was walking down the stairs from the station, I saw another train coming. I thought it might make an interesting shot, so I hurried back up to the top of the stairs and took this shot. The way it was running next to that car, it reminded me of a race. Unfortunately, I was in a hurry, so I didn’t hang around. I wonder who won.

On Friday, I went to my college in Saitama Prefecture. I was really glad to see the mountains from the train on the way up there. I didn’t take any pictures on the train, because I was sitting down, and there too many people standing by the door. (When I take pictures on the train, it is usually when I am standing by one of the doors.) But it was very beautiful.
I took these pictures from my college after my first class. It was already around noon, so they were not as visible as they had been a couple hours before.

Today, we honor and celebrate the sacrifices and guidance that our fathers gave us.
So many social problems can be attributed to the lack of a positive and loving paternal influence. Thankfully, that was never an issue with me. I am grateful for the numerous sacrifices my dad made for me, and I treasure the lessons he taught me. He always expected me to be a gentleman and help other people. Even now, I try to live up to those ideals.

This is one of those pics that I will really look at and smile as I think back on my time in Japan someday…

I can’t believe I haven’t posted for almost a week. What can I say? I have been a bit busy. Sometimes, I think of something I want to write about, but by the time I can sit down and write it, it is old news and hard to really finish it. To be honest, I have had a lot on my mind, and the days just slipped by.
But I have been pretty regular about updating my pictures on Flickr. I have almost 1400 pictures up now. I still need to change the titles and descriptions to many of them, but at least they are up.
They say a picture is worth a thousand words. It’s true. Even when I am too busy or introspective to write much, you can catch a glimpse of my world though my pictures.

Well, I ended up staying close to home again. But that is ok. I had a nice, relaxing weekend. I won’t have the option to stay home again for a while. I did take a long walk, and I took more pictures of Ogikubo, my neighborhood. I also found a few pictures I had already uploaded. They are all in the ?? Ogikubo Flickr photoset that I mentioned in yesterday’s post. Enjoy.
By the way…

Ahh…finally…a day off!
I stayed home, for the most part. I needed to do laundry, and a few things around the house. I also made a couple calls.
But I did run a few errands in Ogikubo. I even took a few simple shots while I was walking. I put them in a new photoset, aptly named ?? Ogikubo.
Most of these were taken near Ogikubo Station. I’m actually a bit surprised I’ve never made a photoset for my Ogikubo pictures. I’m pretty sure I have uploaded pictures from Ogikubo before. Well, I will check tomorrow, and if I have any others, I will add them to that set.
